Hello. I would like to apply for a paid part-time job working at Halfway House Library. I would like to work by shelving and organizing books.
Dear Palisa
Thank you for your interest in working in one of our libraries. to apply for ANY job opportunity within City of Johannesburg, you must go to the http://www.joburg.org.za website and on the menu click on “Work in Joburg” and you will see job opportunities , part time, full time, internships ect, even for other departments. Libraries do not offer part time jobs currently, but there are some, they are advertised on the website as mentioned above..
Good luck
Your elearning Librarian
Do you have opportunities for volunteering for school children for community hours.
Dear Londi
Due to labour regulations and internal city policies, we do not host volunteers in our library branches. However if you wish to be given an opportunity for a specific period to do community work or training at the library, for your school project or studies, please speak to the librarian and show them documentation from your school or institution and they will contact our training office.

Hi,
Does the library have public computers and WiFi?
Hi Stewie
Halfway House has less than 4 computers that you can use. Speak to the Librarian to book a computer for use. They also have free City of Joburg wifi

Do I need special access or permission to enter the library to study, or can I freely go in?
Hi Vondo
Everyone is allowed to walk in and use any of our 87 libraries for studies or other services including reading inside, all for FREE. If you need to take books out, you can register for FREE online as a library member, click on Membership from the website homepage (www.cojelearning.org.za) and fill in the Google form. Your membership numbers will be ready within 7 working days. You can use that membership number for E-books and audiobooks through the Libby app, and other online resources like digital newspapers and magazines, or online articles for research through our website. You can also use it at ANY of the 87 City of Johannesburg libraries for printed books. You can also visit any branch to use study areas.
Happy reading!!
Your Elearning Librarian
I frequent Halfway House public library, I have always carried and used my own router but yesterday the 13 August 2024, somehow, I forgot to carry it. I then requested to use their wifi, asking for their password, for the first time ever since I have been going to the Library for years. Especially, since I have seen the staff members giving it to other library users. To my surprise, the library personnel (I don’t know whether he is a Librarian or just a staff member?) told me that ‘he can’t , it get finish’ (his direct words). I asked if it was not uncapped? He just answered that ‘it get finish’
I just want to know if the public library that serves the community discriminate on who it gives wifi?
Regards
Dear Buyi
We have communicated the enquiry with the Halfway House Library management for clarity. We will update you soonest through your email.

Is it a child friendly space for toddlers; I would like to bring them to read in the library
Dear Esther
Unfortunately that particular library is not child friendly as the library has challenges with space.
