Blackheath Library

Blackheath Library is a busy and friendly community library situated in the heart of the Blackheath Heathway Centre. Our library is a community hub, where programmes are delivered, and people engage in lifelong learning. Blackheath Library ensures that community library programmes are in line with the 4th industrial revolution by offering information literacy and e-learning training programmes. The library also offers homework assistance to school children and also caters for them by creating a safe environment for learning. We have a good relationship with local schools and collaborate in programmes like Battle of the Book and Story Skirmish competitions with the aim of continuously developing and helping our community. The programmes are designed to promote literacy and stress the importance of libraries to juveniles and the community at large.

  1. Hi I would like to know how long we are able to borrow books for and what the consequences are to a late return

    1. Good day AJ
Thank you for your interest in our library services. The loan period for books is 3 weeks (21 days), and books can be renewed for a further period of 3 weeks upon request (in person, or telephonically).
Overdue fines are charged as per the COJ approved tariffs list – currently R7.00 per item per week, or part thereof

      1. I joined library years ago. Misplaced my library card. What are the procedures to obtain a new one. Many thanks.

    1. Hi Linda
As long as the library is open, you can come in and find a space to study for as long as you wish. Just speak to the library staff about their opening and closing times.

      Good luck with your studies

    1. Dear Linda
Apologies for the earlier incorrect message. The drop box is only available if there is load shedding, but generally AFTER hours when the library is closed, we do not have a dropbox. You can contact the library or let us know if you need to renew the books and return them when the library is open.

      Regards
      Elearning Librarian

  2. Your phone line is not working.

It there an alternate wat we could reach you without having to physically drive to your library to inquire if you keep specific book?

the http://www.joburg.org.za website and click “work in Joburg” on the top menu where you might find opportunities for internships,
learnerships, permanent and contract employment. Some of these opportunities are sometimes advertised for libraries.
