Alexandra 8th Avenue Library

The library in Alexandra started in a container and was run by a Librarian and Assistant Librarian. There was no formal library. However, in 1998 a proper structure was built. The building is called Alexandra Multi-Purpose Community Centre. The centre house different departments, i.e clinic, revenue, housing, social development and library.Alexandra Multi-Purpose Community Centre was officially opened on 25 February 2004 by the Minister in the presidency Dr Essop Coolam Pahad. In November 2012 the centre was closed due to renovations and all the departments were to evacuate the building for the process to take place. However, we started operating again in September 2015.Since then to date Alex library is still operating and has grown bigger in terms of its users and services.
