Yes the library is still closed due to upgrades until further notice. Please make use of Emndeni, Jabavu and other nearest libraries.

    1. Hi Nomonde
It is possible that we have novels with those themes. To make things easy, please kindly research on google for authors that write about such themes and select the authors or titles , submit to us and we can search our collections.

      1. Dear Ofentse
Thank you for your enquiry. While the City was planning on the renovations, the library was broken into, and this delays the process. Please see the message below from our MMC Community Development

“I strongly condemn the recent act of vandalism at the Protea North Library. Libraries are cornerstones of our communities,
providing essential access to information, promoting literacy, preserving our culture and history, and serving as hubs for community engagement.

It is distressing to witness the destruction of such a vital resource. Vandalism undermines the invaluable role libraries play in society and
impacts residents who rely on them for educational and personal development. We recognise the urgency of this issue and are actively
        working to address it.

Immediate interventions are being developed to safeguard our community libraries and prevent further incidents. We call on all residents to respect
and protect these community spaces and encourage them to report any suspicious activities.

We are committed to restoring the Protea North Library and ensuring that it remains a safe, accessible, and vibrant hub for learning
and community connection. The Department is engaging with relevant stakeholders to explore long-term security measures and
strategies to prevent further damage to public facilities.

  1. Hi,
Do we have a time line as to when the library might be re-opened?
This library has helped me attain my qualifications with high marks as it provided a conducive environment for studying and now I feel lost as a student.
It was a place, where great minds met to further their knowledge, the study area upstairs was ideal and had less disturbances. High school & higher education students would go there daily and now, it’s quite. I’m saddened by its state, remembering the glory days of Protea North Library with its helpful staff.

    1. Dear Nomzamo
We have forwarded your enquiry to the relevant facilities management office. We will revert once they respond.
