The library became a cultural centre for the community of Poortjie by providing educational resources.Library was established in 1996 and it opened with a collection of about 500 books in a small room next to the community hall. Today Poortjie library has a total of 1500 members and library materials of over 5000 items and the library offers free services. The library host various programmes including, Digital literacy activities, Youth Workshops and Business Workshops that are aimed at empowering community members by providing information and training on how to start businesses. For children, we have Science Scuffle, Story Skirmish, Battle of the Books, and storytelling.
